BROOKVILLE, NY - The Mercy College baseball team fell in both ends of an East Coast Conference (ECC) doubleheader at C.W. Post on Saturday, April 21.  The Pioneers took the opener by a score of 11-8, before winning game two, 19-1.

Senior first baseman Steve Summer (East Meadow, NY) was 4-for-7 with a home run and four runs batted in for Mercy in the doubleheader, while freshman short stop Justin Muscarella (Plainedge, NY) went 4-for-8 on the day.

After Mercy (2-27, 2-14 ECC) scored a run in the second inning of the opener, C.W. Post (20-13, 11-7 ECC) answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning. The Flyers then responded with three runs in the third to cut the deficit to 5-4, all coming on Summer's second round-tripper of the season.

Mercy regained the lead at 6-5 in the fifth, getting RBI singles from freshman center fielder Vinnie Tesoriero (Glen Head, NY) and freshman catcher Marc Dern (Valley Stream, NY), but the Pioneers sent 10 men to the plate in the eighth inning to score six times and take an 11-6 advantage.

The Flyers rallied in the ninth, getting an RBI double from Muscarella and an RBI single from Summer to cut the deficit to three, but they could pull no closer.

In game two, C.W. Post scored once in the first inning and twice in the second frame, before posting six runs in the fourth to open up a 9-0 lead.

Mercy got its run in the fifth inning on an RBI ground out from senior catcher Eugene DeMayo (Olive Bridge, NY), but the Pioneers got it back in the bottom of the inning and then scored nine times in the sixth to put the game away.

The Flyers and Pioneers will complete their series on Sunday, April 22, at Mercy beginning at 11:00 a.m.
