DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College baseball team rallied from a nine-run deficit, but visiting Briarcliffe broke a tie with a run in the ninth inning to edge the Flyers 13-12 on Thursday, April 19.  Mercy pounded out 20 hits in the contest, led by Jonathan Cohen's (Roslyn Heights, NY) 4-for-5 performance with four runs driven in.

Trailing 12-3 after Briarcliffe (9-5) posted nine runs in the top of the fifth, Mercy scored four times in the bottom of the inning, cutting the deficit to 12-7. After Craig Ross (Bellmore, NY) plated a run with a single, Cohen drove in two more with a triple and then scored on a wild pitch.

The Flyers (2-24) scored five more times in the bottom of the sixth to knot the contest at 12-12. Ross and Cohen each had runs batted in, and Ken Mundy (Valley Stream, NY) tied it up with an opposite field three-run home run.

Both teams went scoreless over the next two innings before Briarcliffe's Scott Rader doubled with one out in the top of the ninth.  Two batters later, John Rivera delivered a base hit to left field, plating the go ahead run.

Mercy threatened in the bottom of the ninth as Steve Summer (East Meadow, NY) singled with one-out, but Briarcliffe reliever Victor Mederos got a double-play ball to end the threat and the game.

Cohen was just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, collecting a pair of doubles and a single to go with his triple. Ross finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Mundy went 3-for-4, and Julian Tosado (Miami, FL) was 3-for-5 with a run driven in.

Mercy will resume East Coast Conference (ECC) play on Friday, April 20, with a home game versus Concordia at 3:30 p.m.
