Mercy's Marc Dern Named ECC Rookie of the Week
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College freshman Marc Dern (Valley Stream, NY) has been named East Coast Conference (ECC) Baseball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Dern, a 5-foot-8 catcher/designated hitter, hit safely in all three games last week, going 5-for-7 (.714 batting average), and drawing a pair of walks to post a .778 on base percentage (7-of-9). He collected three doubles to register a 1.143 slugging percentage, and drove in three runs.
Dern went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, one run driven in, and another scored as the designated hitter at St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday. He then went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a walk in game one versus Dowling on Saturday, and went 1-for-2 in the nightcap, catching both games.
Over his last five contests, Dern is 6-for-12, raising his season batting average to .292. He is second on the squad among regulars with a .443 on base percentage.
Mercy is scheduled to travel to Bridgeport for a 3:00 p.m. East Coast Conference (ECC) game on Wednesday, April 18.
