Gm 1 Box Score | Gm 2 Box Score
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College baseball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 14. Dowling took the opener by a score of 21-8, before winning 5-2 in game two, which was halted after five innings due to darkness.
Dowling (12-13, 7-5 ECC) posted six runs in the first inning of game one, and added two more in the second frame to jump out to an 8-0 lead. After Mercy (2-23, 2-11 ECC) scored once in the bottom of the second, the Golden Lions scored seven more in the third and didn't look back.
Freshman center fielder Vinnie Tesoriero (Glen Head, NY) was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored for Mercy. Freshman catcher Marc Dern (Valley Stream, NY) went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs driven in. Senior first baseman Steve Summer (East Meadow, NY) was 3-for-5 with a double, and junior Nicodemus Hendricks (New York, NY) was 2-for-2, including a solo home run.
In the nightcap, Dowling struck for a pair of runs in the second inning, getting a two-run single from James Healey. The Golden Lions stretched the lead to 5-0, scoring three times in the fourth. Kevin Reese had a two-run single in the inning and Ryan Grabowski added an RBI single.
The Flyers got a pair back in the bottom of the fifth as sophomore Jonathan Cohen (Roslyn Heights, NY) and Hendricks each drove in runs, but that would be all they would get before the contest was called.
The two teams are scheduled to complete their series on Sunday, April 15, with a single game beginning at Noon.
