Mercy's Steve Merslich Named ECC Co-Pitcher of the Week
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College junior Steve Merslich (Flushing, NY) has been named East Coast Conference (ECC) Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. He shares the honor with Riley Shuckerow of Bridgeport.
Merslich, a 6-foot-4 southpaw, tossed a complete game shutout of New Haven in game two of Saturday's doubleheader as the Flyers topped the Chargers, 8-0. He scattered six hits, all singles, and struck out four batters for his first win at Mercy. Merslich worked out of jams in the second, fourth, and sixth innings to shut down New Haven's potent offense and preserve Mercy's first shutout since the 2004 season.
Mercy will take on St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday, April 11, at Rockland Community College and travel to UMass Lowell on Friday, April 13. The Flyers will then play Dowling in a three-game set on Saturday, April 14 (home) and Sunday, April 15 (away).
