Kean Takes Mercy College Baseball, 15-3

          UNION, NJ - The Mercy College baseball team fell by a score of 15-3, to host Kean University in non-conference action on Friday, March 30. The Flyers are now 1-15 overall, while Kean improved to 9-3.

          Junior designated hitter Jonathan Cohen (Roslyn Heights, NY) went 3-for-4 with a double and a stolen base to lead Mercy, and junior second baseman Dominick Callegari (Kings Park, NY) was 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

          Kean posted three runs in the second inning, four in the third, and three more in the fourth, building a 10-0 lead.  The Cougars added a single run in the fifth, before Mercy scored twice in the sixth frame, cutting the margin to 11-2.

          Kean got one back in the bottom of sixth and added three runs in the eighth, stretching its lead to 15-2.  The Flyers pushed across one run in the ninth on an RBI ground out by pinch hitter Nicodemus Hendricks (New York, NY).

          Junior Tom Maletta (Forest Hills, NY) and Frank DeRosa (West Harrison, NY) gave Mercy strong relief efforts. Joe Rizzo earned the win for Kean, going six innings and striking out four batters. Left fielder Nick Nolan went 3-for-3 with a home run and four runs batted in for the Cougars.

          The Flyers are back in action on Saturday, March 31, when they travel to Concordia for and East Coast Conference (ECC) doubleheader, beginning at Noon.
