Adelphi Tops Mercy College Baseball, 9-3

          GARDEN CITY, NY - The Mercy College baseball team fell by a score of 9-3 at the hands of host Adelphi in East Coast Conference (ECC) action on Sunday, March 25. The Flyers are now 0-14 overall and 0-3 in league play, while the Panthers improved to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in ECC action.

          Outfielder Julian Tosado (Miami, FL) went 2-for-4 on the day and first baseman Steve Summer (East Meadow, NY) was 1-for-3 with a run driven in for the Flyers. Right hander Brad Lozano (Miami, FL) gave Mercy 3 2/3 innings of solid relief.

          Adelphi got on the scoreboard with three runs in the bottom of the first on two hits, a walk, and a Mercy error. The Panthers added a run on an RBI single by Rob DeGennaro in the second frame to build a 4-0 lead.

          The Flyers got one back in the fourth on Summer's RBI double. The Panthers answered with single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, and added two more in the sixth and another in the seventh, stretching the margin to 9-1.

          Mercy got to Adelphi's bullpen in the top of the eighth, getting a run scoring ground out from Marc Dern (Valley Stream, NY) and a run scoring single off the bat of Joe Benedict (Harrison, NY), cutting the deficit to 9-3, but could pull no closer.

          The Flyers are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 27, when they host Dominican at 3:00 p.m. in their home opener.
