Felician Holds Off Mercy College Baseball, 10-7

MIAMI SHORES, FL - The Mercy College baseball team rallied from an early deficit, but fell short by a score of 10-7 at the hands of Felician College on Sunday, March 11, in a non-conference contest played at Barry University. The Flyers are now 0-6 on the year.

Catcher Roberto Martinez (Yonkers, NY) put together a 4-for-5 day at the plate for Mercy, smacking his first home run of the season and a pair of doubles, while driving in three. Right fielder Eugene DeMayo (Kingston, NY) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Felician got a run in the first and picked up five more in the fourth, building an early 6-0 advantage. The Flyers got two runs back in the bottom of the inning, both on Martinez's round-tripper after a Felician error extended the inning.

After a scoreless fifth, both teams posted single runs in the sixth inning, with Mercy's coming on a run scoring double from Martinez.  Felician took an 8-3 lead in the eighth, but the Flyers pulled to within three as they got RBI singles from DeMayo and Justin Roman (Silver Spring, MD).

Felician came right back with two runs in the ninth on a Thomas DiPietro home run to take a 10-5 lead.  The Flyers rallied once more, getting two runs in the final inning on run scoring singles from Steve Summer (East Meadow) and Julian Tosado (Miami, FL), but Felician's Scott VanES shut the door from there.

Mercy will be back in action again on Monday, March 12, with a 3:00 p.m. game at Southeastern University.
