Mercy College Baseball Drops 7-3 Decision to Wilmington

            LANTANA, FL - The Mercy College baseball team fell by a score of 7-3 to Wilmington on Saturday, March 10.  Flyers are now 0-5 on the year.

            Freshmen center fielder Vinnie Tesoriero (Glen Head, NY) went 3-for-5, while first baseman Steve Summer (East Meadow, NY) was 2-for-4 with a run driven in.  Sophomore right hander Matt Moreno (Harrison, NY) allowed only two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings of work, striking out five.

            Mercy got a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI ground out Craig Ross (Bellmore, NY).  Wilmington went ahead 2-1 in the third inning, but the Flyers got one back in the bottom of the frame on a squeeze bunt by second baseman Ken Mundy (Valley Stream) to knot the game at 2-2.  Wilmington got single runs in the fifth and seventh innings before posting three in the eighth to take a 7-2 lead.  The Flyers got one in the bottom of the eighth on a run scoring single from Summer, but Wilmington's bullpen held the game from there.

            Mercy will return to action on Sunday, March 11 with a 9:30 a.m. contest versus Felician to be played out Barry University.
