Mercy Baseball Swept by Bridgeport, 7-2
& 6-0
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The University of Bridgeport took both ends of a New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) baseball doubleheader from host Mercy College on Friday, May 5. The Purple Knights won the opener by a score of 7-2, before taking the nightcap, 6-0. Mercy is now 5-37 overall and 3-24 in NYCAC play. Bridgeport moves to 17-20 overall and 14-13 in league action.
Junior Brad Lozano (Miami, FL) had three hits on the day for Mercy, going 1-for-4 in game one, and 2-for-3 the second contest. Senior first baseman Joe DeMuria (Islip, NY) was 2-for-4 in the opener. Junior catcher Roberto Martinez (Yonkers, NY) had a hit in each game, including a two-run home run in game one.
Senior right-hander Steve Parisi (Congers, NY), went the distance for the Flyers in the first game. He struck out three, while allowing six earned runs over nine innings. Freshman Matt Moreno (Harrison, NY) also gave Mercy a complete game effort in the nightcap, fanning three and allowing five earned runs.
Steve Anagnostou (Enfield, CT) was 5-for-5 with two runs driven in during game one, and added a 2-for-4 performance in game two for the Purple Knights. Marek Deska (Toronto, Canada) notched the first win for Bridgeport, allowing two runs over eight innings. Troy Sainsbury (Westerly, RI) tossed a complete game, six-hit shutout for the second victory.
Mercy will close out the regular season on Tuesday, May 9, at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
