Bridgeport Blanks Mercy 8-0, on No-Hitter

BRIDGEPORT, NY -  The Mercy College baseball team dropped an 8-0 decision, as Bridgeport's Tony Danella (Piscataway, NJ) tossed a no-hitter on Wednesday, May 4, at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.  Mercy's record fell to 5-35 overall and 3-22 in New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) play. Bridgeport improved to 15-20 overall and 12-13 in the league.

Danella walked only one batter in nine innings, facing just one over the minimum, and struck out three. Rob Parisian (Saugerties, NY) went 3-for-3 for Bridgeport and Nate Leva (Cambridge, MA) knocked in three runs.

The Purple Knights scored two runs in the second inning when Joe Misinonile (West Haven, CT) and Parisian each singled and then scored on a base hit from Jose Virella (Arroyo, Puerto Rico). They added one run in the third, four in the fourth, and one more in the fifth.

Senior first baseman Joe DeMuria's (Islip, NY) walk came in the fourth inning for Mercy, but he was erased on an inning-ending fielder's choice.

Freshman right-hander Matt Moreno (Harrison, NY) gave the Flyers three innings of no-hit, scoreless relief, striking out one batter and walking one.

The two teams will meet again on Friday, May 5, at Mercy for a doubleheader beginning at noon.  The Flyers will honor their seniors in a pre-game presentation.
