Mercy Student-Athletes Attend Presentation with Nutritionist, Director of Safety; Learn About Newest Major on Campus
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 12, 2011) – Last week, Mercy College student-athletes sat in on a three-person presentation in Main Hall’s lecture room to hear about nutrition, security and a new major offered at Mercy.
The second speaker of the day was Mercy College Director of Safety
Dan Braccia. Braccia, who has worked for the New
York Police Department and the United States Federal Marshall
program, spoke about how important it is to maintain the cleanest
record while in college. He mentioned how a public intoxication
offense at the age of 19 remains on your personal record forever.
Braccia also talked about the “digital footprint”
student-athletes leave on the Internet, and how Facebook, Twitter
and e-mail is all monitored, checked and saved by the government.
Whether it’s digital or non-digital, job employers will
always be able to check out an interviewee’s record and
Braccia enforced that notion to the Mavericks in attendance. At the
end of his presentation, Braccia welcomed students to come by the
Safety Office in Main Hall to chat if they ever had any questions.
His e-mail address is: dbraccia@mercy.edu.
The panel’s third and final speaker of the day was
Astrid Mel, Assistant Professor of Health and
Natural Sciences at Mercy. She briefly discussed and explained one
of the college’s newest programs – a Bachelor’s
Degree in Exercise Science. For more information regarding this
major, please contact Professor Mel at amel@mercy.edu, call 1-877-MERCY-GO or
