Five Student-Athletes Honored at Mercy College Awards Dinner

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (May 16, 2012) – Four Mercy College student-athletes were recognized as Award Recipients and another three were inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) at the Mercy College Honors Reception and Awards Dinner on Thursday evening.

Sophomore Rebecca Delphin (Women’s Soccer), freshman Danielle Jones (Field Hockey), sophomore Elizabeth Rjedkin (Women’s Lacrosse) and sophomore Jesse Wood (Men’s Lacrosse) made up the quartet of award recipients and Delphin, Rjedkin and sophomore Syntia Malicka (Volleyball) were the trio of NSCS inductees.

The five student-athletes join nearly half of Mercy’s entire student-athlete population on an impressive list of academic accomplishments this year.  The Mavericks saw a 47 percent increase to 53 student-athletes named to the East Coast Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll (minimum cumulative 3.25 GPA) in August and a whopping 86 recognized on the inaugural Coca-Cola Athletics Director’s Honor Roll (minimum non-cumulative 3.20 GPA).  Another three members of the field hockey team were also named to the 2011 Gladiator Academic Squad.

“Being able to balance athletics, while harboring a strong academic profile is a very impressive feat,” Director of Athletics Pat Kennedy said. “It is a testament to the hard work and strong focus on academics as well as athletics that we foster at Mercy.”
