Athletics Welcomes Future Mavericks at the 2011 New Student-Athlete Orientation

DOBBS FERRY, NY- The Mercy College Department of Athletics held its New Student-Athlete Orientation on Monday, June 27.  Over 60 incoming student-athletes were present, representing each of the Mavericks’ sports programs.

The new student-athletes and parents were welcomed by Director of Athletics Pat Kennedy and members of her staff.  The welcome session included some ice breaker activities where the athletes were able to get to know one another and demonstrate their teamwork and communication skills.

The Orientation allowed each new student-athlete the opportunity to meet their classmates, teammates, coaches, and members of the administration.  They were also able to register for their fall classes, as well as meet with representatives from Residential Life, Student Services, and PACT.

The group of future Mavericks was treated to a poolside lunch on campus, followed by an informative question and answer session with members of various departments.  The students were exposed to all of the resources available to them once they arrive on campus, and they were able to learn about expectations of being a student-athlete, SAAC, academic support services, sports medicine, and various other college resources.

“Our New Student-Athlete Orientation is always a special day,” Kennedy said.  “Everyone here has been able to interact with important members of each department on campus, and they have been afforded a first look at the wonderful environment that Mercy College will provide for them.  We are certainly building to break out!”
