Weather Forces Softball, Baseball and Women’s Lacrosse to Postpone, Cancel Games
Rain has forced postponements and cancellations for the upcoming weekend for several Mercy College athletic programs. Softball and baseball have had games in Florida wiped out, while women’s lacrosse will postpone a game in Delaware.
The men’s lacrosse contest scheduled for Saturday, March 13, against Dominican (Cal.) University at Mountain Lakes (N.J.) High School will still be played as scheduled at 1:00 p.m.
The women’s lacrosse game scheduled for Saturday at Wilmington (Del.) will be postponed. The game will become a home game for Mercy on Tuesday, April 27, at 2:00 p.m. at SUNY Purchase. Women’s lacrosse next plays at Ramapo (N.J.) College on Wednesday, March 17, at 4:00 p.m.
Softball has had two straight days of games rained out at the Cocoa Expo in Titusville, Fla. On Thursday, Mercy had been scheduled to face Concord and Alfred, while on Friday it was Alfred and Minnesota-Crookston. The softball team has no games remaining on the Florida portion of the schedule. The Mavericks return to New York on Saturday, and are next scheduled to play at Chestnut Hill next Friday, March 19.
Baseball, meanwhile, is in Fort Pierce, Fla., and had a Thursday game against Nyack College shortened, with a second game cancelled. Friday’s doubleheader against Chestnut Hill also fell victim to the rain. The Mercy nine will try to get in one final game in Florida, against Susquehanna (Pa.), on Saturday afternoon, before returning north.
