DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- In an effort to give fans an inside look at
the inaugural lacrosse seasons at Mercy College, student-athletes
from both the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams will
blog about their experiences, available at the school’s
official website, www.MercyAthletics.com
Blogging for the women’s team will be freshman goalkeeper Lauren
Mateja (King of Prussia, Penn.) while freshman
defender Cody
Jaworski (Tully, N.Y.), will do the same for the men.
Each will update their own blog several times each week, sharing
their respective thoughts on their collegiate experiences. Blogging
will begin during the first week of February, and will continue
several times each week through the regular season.
“There will only ever be one first season,” said Chris
Gonzales, Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations.
“We’re opening a window, letting people live these
experiences with us.”
Mateja played three years of lacrosse and one year of field hockey
at the Upper Merion Area High School, receiving Academic
All-American accolades during her senior year. An English major who
has future career plans in the law industry, Mateja is projected to
start in goal for the Mavericks, who open the season on Wednesday,
Mar. 3 at Manhattanville College.
Jarworski played four years of lacrosse at Tully High School, in
the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. A captain during his
senior season at Tully, he enters Mercy as a Corporate and Homeland
Security major. He will see significant time for the Mavericks, who
open the season at Vassar College on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Mercy College, located in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., is an NCAA Division
II institution, competing in the East Coast Conference. The ECC
maintains a high national profile in men’s and women’s
lacrosse, with several schools winning national championships in
recent years.
