Mercy College Athletics Holds New Student-Athlete Orientation

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College Department of Athletics hosted a New Student-Athlete Orientation on Monday, June 29. A total of 89 incoming student-athletes, representing each of the Mavericks' sports programs, and numerous parents were in attendance.
After a welcome from Director of Athletics Pat Kennedy and staff introductions, new student-athletes participated in a pair of ice breaker exercises in which they worked as teams and used their communication skills.
That was followed by lunch, served poolside and overlooking the scenic Hudson River where student-athletes were able to go for a swim, and meet and greet new teammates, classmates and members of the administration.

The afternoon session in the Lecture Hall gave new student-athletes a glimpse of what would be in store for them and what support services are available when they arrive on campus. Topics included a crash course in being a student-athlete, expectations, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, academic support, time management, sports medicine, and the Mercy College Personalized Achievement Contract (PACT) program.
The day concluded with an engaging question and answer session in the form of a panel discussion, featuring members of the coaching staff and administration.
"This was a wonderful way to introduce our newcomers to Mercy College and it was a beautiful day for the event," Kennedy said. "Students, staff, and parents alike all had a positive first experience as Mavericks. This incoming class of recruits will complement the strong foundation that our returning student-athletes have built. Mercy Mavericks are on the move!"
