Van Cott Named ECC Rookie of the Week
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. -- The East Coast Conference has named Mercy
College’s Bryan Van
Cott its men’s basketball Rookie of the Week,
for the period ending January 31, 2010. Van Cott averaged 17.5
points and 7.5 rebounds as the Mavericks (1-19; 1-12 ECC) lost to
St. Thomas Aquinas College, 84-73, and Molloy College, 106-93.
On Wednesday, January 27, the freshman sparkled. He shot 33.3%
from the field and recorded 11 points, while chipping in
defensively with four rebounds, in the 84-73 loss to STAC.
Next, on Saturday, January 30, the 6’4” forward was
tasked with guarding Molloy’s Brian Hutchinson, who went on
to earn ECC Co-Player of the Week honors this week, and still
scored a team-high 24 points while grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds
in the 106-93 loss.
Having started both games, he averaged 37.5 minutes per game.
Mercy next plays on Wednesday, February 3, at NYIT. The game is
scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. tip.
