Dobbs Ferry, NY - Mercy College announced today
that the NFL is coming to Mercy College to participate in a unique
Sport Management Roundtable Discussion to be held on Thursday,
November 20, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. This event, which is free and open
to the public, will provide aspiring sport managers and others with
an inside look at this fast-moving field. The Roundtable will be
held at the Mercy College Dobbs Ferry campus (555 Broadway), in the
Main Hall, Lecture Hall.
The panel features top sport management professionals: Michael J
Keenan, president of the NFL's Cleveland Browns; Kevin Abrams,
Assistant General Manager of the New York Giants; Dennis Curran,
NFL Management Council; and Buck Briggs, Professor at Cornell
University and University of Pennsylvania Law Schools and member of
the NFL Management Council.
"Starting in the spring of 2009, Mercy College will offer a new
18-credit specialization in Sport Management within the School of
Business. This exciting roundtable discussion is a powerful
opportunity for our students to learn about a career in sport
management from leaders in the field," said Dr. Kimberly Cline,
president of Mercy College.
Sport Management is one of the fastest growing segments within the
entertainment industry. In addition to the apparent Sport Manager
professions, graduates can also work within the marketing,
promotions, and special events industries.
Anthony Belli, Mercy College professor of Sport Management and
program coordinator, believes this program will successfully
prepare aspiring sport managers for career positions. He explains,
"We will fuse academic materials with practical skills to ensure
our students have the tools for the sport management career
path."
With experienced and committed faculty on board, Belli believes the
practical application of sport management will distinguish Mercy
College from other institutions. States Wayne Cioffari, dean of the
School of Business, "Mercy College will prepare students for real
jobs in key areas of the sport industry. Our panel discussion is a
great way for students to learn what it takes to succeed in this
fascinating field."
