DOBBS FERRY, NY - Eight Mercy College student-athletes received Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT, it was announced on Thursday. The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.
Mercy's honorees for the 2007-08 campaign were: Kevin
Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Tom Cannariato (Goshen,
NY) and Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada)
from the cross country/track and field programs, Carl
Spence (St. Catherine, Jamaica) and Nizar Chahbani
(Menzel Bourguiba, Tunisia) from men's soccer,
Natalee Carty (Kingston, Jamaica) and Rose
Harper (Croton, NY) from the women's volleyball team, and
Casey Kondelka (Bloomingburg, NY) of the women's
In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work at the institution, and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during the last academic year.
"We are very proud of the success of all our student-athletes in the classroom and I congratulate these extraordinary individuals that earned this award," said Mercy's Director of Athletics Pat Kennedy.
