Five Mavericks Named to ECC Scholar Athlete Honor Rolls
|
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Each of Mercy College's five fall sports had student-athletes earn spots on the East Coast Conference (ECC) Scholar Athlete Honor Rolls. The five Mavericks selected were: Thomas Cannariato (Goshen, NY), Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY), Casey Kondelka (Bloomingburg, NY), Raldino Powell (Bronx, NY), and Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica). Recipients are nominated by their institution and voted upon by the Faculty Athletic Representatives from each ECC institution.
Cannariato, who is a graduate student majoring in adolescent education, was a member of the men's cross country team and posted a 3.79 grade point average to earn his second straight spot on the Honor Roll. He is also a two-time ECC All-Academic selection. Cannariato began his final season with the Blue & White by running the 8k course at the Iona Meet of Champions in a time of 28:08.2. He also grabbed second place at the Lehman Invitational with a time of 28:36.0.
Klobus is also a two-time Honor Roll recipient and three-time All-Academic selection. A senior psychology major on the women's cross country squad, she carries a 3.33 grade point average. Klobus was the team's top finisher in every race since her sophomore season. This year she posted a time of 21:32 at the Albany Invitational in the 3.1 mile course. At the NCAA Division II East Regionals she ran the 6k course in 27:13.
A junior defender with the women's soccer team, Kondelka is the Mavericks' third two-time Honor Roll member and is also a two-time All-Academic selection. She has a 3.65 grade point average while pursuing her degree in mathematics. Kondelka started all 11 games in which she played and anchored a much improved defense. The Mavericks lowered their goals against average by almost a full goal.
Powell is a sophomore forward on the men's soccer team with a 3.33 grade point average. The health science major scored one goal this season and assisted on two others. His goal came against Stonehill on a slick header into the right corner. In 2007, Powell notched nine points for the Mavericks while making 10 starts.
A sophomore middle hitter on the volleyball team, Hamilton is a media studies major with a 3.82 grade point average. She helped lead the Mavericks to an ECC playoff berth against Dowling College. Hamilton led the team in kills per game with 2.83 and in blocks with 55. She recorded 24 kills in a match against Molloy and added 18 more against Concordia.
