Mercy College Announces Spring Sports Schedules

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College Athletics Department has released schedules for the 2009 baseball, softball, men's tennis and outdoor track & field seasons.

The baseball team will open up its season with five games in Myrtle Beach, SC against Bloomfield College, Felician College twice, Briarcliffe College and West Chester University from February 27 - March 1. The Mavericks will return to the Northeast to play at Nyack and Southern Connecticut State, and then host St. Thomas Aquinas in the Blue & White's home opener on March 9 at 3 p.m. Beginning March 21, the baseball team will travel to Florida to take on Southeastern, Mt. Vernon Nazarene, Tennessee Temple and Barry.

The softball team will begin its slate with several games in Cocoa Beach, Fla. from March 5 - March 11. The Blue & White will play a double-dip against St. Anselm on the 6th. The following day they will take on Dakota-Wesleyan, Lees-McRae, and Carlow University. On the 9th the Mavericks will play a doubleheader against Bloomfield College and then wrap up the next day against Black Hills State and Carlow University. The Mavericks will then travel to West Chester University on March 13, and then return home to take on St. Anselm the following day at noon.

The men's tennis team will start its season at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Flight Tournament on February 21-22 held at Queens College. First-year head coach Leaf O'Neal will then make his home debut against Queens College on March 21 followed by St. Thomas Aquinas College on the 28th.

The outdoor track & field team will begin competition on March 14 at the Queensborough Relays, followed by the NJIT Highlander Invitational on March 21. Head Coach Darryl Bullock's squad will round out March at the United States Military Academy in the Dick Shea Invitational on the 28th. The Mavericks will also compete at the Penn Relays April 23 and the ECAC/IC4A Championship on May 15-16.
