Cemi Abreu Named Head Athletic Trainer at Mercy College

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Cemi Abreu has been named Head Athletic Trainer at Mercy College, as announced by Director of Athletics Pat Kennedy on Monday.
Abreu will oversee the athletic training services for each of the College's 16 NCAA Division II athletics programs. He will provide immediate care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, and educate student-athletes on preventative measures.
He comes to Dobbs Ferry with a multitude of experience at the collegiate level. Abreu was previously employed by as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Wagner College, a NCAA Division I program in the Northeast Conference (NEC). With the Seahawks, Abreu worked with the men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's lacrosse programs, treating injured student-athletes and managing rehabilitation programs.
Abreu also worked at Division I programs St. John's University and the University of Buffalo as a Student Athletic Trainer. At St. John's he provided first aid and proper care for injured student-athletes. He also designed and implemented strength and conditioning programs. While at Buffalo he provided cryotherapy and thermotherapy for the school's Division I student-athletes.
Abreu, a native of Brooklyn, got his start as an Intern Student Athletic Trainer with the New York Mets. He assisted the certified athletic trainer with different modalities in caring for athletes. He also worked with the head athletic trainer for the Brooklyn Cyclones, a minor league affiliate of the Mets, where he created and monitored rehabilitation programs.
Abreu received his master's degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of Buffalo. He is a member of the National Athletic Training Association and is a certified athletic trainer.
