Mercy's Delmara Reece and Jimmy Gunville Named ECC Rookies of the Week

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College freshman basketball players Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) and Jimmy Gunville (Raynham, MA/Bridgewater-Raynham HS) have each been named East Coast Conference (ECC) Baden Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

Reece, a 5-foot-10 forward, put together the best week of her rookie campaign, averaging 17.5 points, 17.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game in helping Mercy to a pair of ECC wins.  In the process she ran her streak of double-doubles to three straight and now has four through her first seven games. Reece opened up with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and one block in Mercy's 72-68 victory over Dowling on Wednesday. She followed up with career-highs of 19 points and 23 rebounds to go with three blocks and a steal as the Mavericks defeated Concordia 75-73 on Saturday. For the week she shot 48 percent from the field (15-for-31) and nine of her 34 boards came on the offensive glass.  Reece is averaging a double-double for the year at 12.9 points and 12.1 rebounds.

A 6-foot guard, Gunville averaged 12.0 points for the week, scoring 12 points in both games against Dowling and Concordia. He went 4-for-8 from the field, hitting 1-of-4 beyond the arc and 3-of-4 at the free throw line as Mercy topped Dowling 62-60, netting a big 25-foot three-pointer with 14 seconds left. In a defeat to Concordia, he hit 4-of-11 from long range and picked up four rebounds.  Gunville is averaging 9.6 points on the year and ranks second on the squad with 15 three-pointers.

Both teams will return to action on Wednesday, December 12, at NYIT beginning with the women's game at 5:00 p.m. and followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m.  Fans in attendance can receive free admission by donating an unwrapped toy to the NYIT Student Athlete Advisory Committee's "Toys for Tots" drive.  Fans that can't make it to the game can watch live at http://www.eccsports.tv/ for the low price of $5.50 for each game.
