Mercy College Athletics to Collect Used Cell Phones to Benefit Sunshine Lady Child Care Center at Basketball Doubleheader on January 15

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Jammin' January continues for the Mercy College basketball teams when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College at Dobbs Ferry High School on Tuesday, January 15.  Admission is free for all fans that donate a used cell phone at the gate.  The women will tip-off first at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men at 8:00 p.m.

For each used phone donated, Mercy College will receive funds that will be donated to the Sunshine Lady Child Care Center at Mercy's Bronx Campus. All donated cell phones will be refurbished or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.

More than 150 million cell phones are retired in the U.S. each year. Cell phones and their batteries contain toxins that should not end up in landfills. By donating to this cell phone collection program, you are doing your part to help keep the environment clean while raising funds that will benefit Mercy's Sunshine Lady Child Care Center.  In addition, many recycled phones are distributed to those in need for 911 (emergency only) services or are reused in less-developed areas of the world, where there are no land lines.

For more information about this program, please e-mail Director of Child Care Services Linda Cammarota at lcammarota@mercy.edu.
