Mercy's Jammin' January 2008 Tips-Off on Saturday, January 5, with Basketball Doubleheader vs. Adelphi

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College men's and women's basketball teams will begin 2008 on Saturday, January 5, with their first of six "Jammin' January" events of the year when they play host to Adelphi University at Dobbs Ferry High School.
The first 150 fans in attendance at the January 5 doubleheader will receive a full-color schedule card featuring standouts Chanze Wellington and Christina Baxter. The women will tip-off first at 1:00 p.m., followed by the men at 3:00 p.m.
During the doubleheader versus St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday, January 15, the Mercy College athletics department will collect used cell phones which will be refurbished or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. All fans that donate a used cell phone will receive free admission. For each recyclable phone donated, Mercy College will receive funds that will be donated to the Sunshine Lady Child Care Center at the Mercy College Bronx campus.
The Mercy College men's and women's basketball teams will hold a free Youth Basketball Clinic prior to their doubleheader versus C.W. Post on Saturday, January 19. The clinic is open to all children ages 6 to 11, and will begin at 10:30 a.m. All children in attendance at the clinic and their parents will receive complimentary admission for both games at Dobbs Ferry High School beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Mercy's doubleheader on January 23, versus Bridgeport is "Make-a-Wish Wednesday" and will be played at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry. All fans that make a donation to the Make-a-Wish Foundation on that evening will receive complimentary admission to both games, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Throughout the month, the Mercy College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be accepting contributions to benefit the nation's largest wish-granting organization which has given hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions since 1980.
On Saturday, January 26, Mercy College will celebrate Take a Kid to a Game Day, when the Mavericks host Queens College at Dobbs Ferry High School beginning at 1:00 p.m. Area children age 11 and under are invited to attend this special event and receive a free ticket with the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket. Children will have the opportunity to experience the college game-day atmosphere and some exciting NCAA Division II action.
The Mavericks will wrap up "Jammin' January" with Blue White Night on Thursday, January 31, when they host New Haven in another big ECC doubleheader at The Masters School. Mercy welcomes back students, faculty and staff for the spring semester and invites all members of the College Community to come out and show their school spirit. All fans with a Mercy College I.D. and one guest will receive free admission for both contests beginning at 6:00 p.m. Join the Mercy College basketball programs for this special night which will feature giveaways, prizes, and special presentations.
