Bruzzone, Carnegie and Glebov Named Mercy College September Athletes of the Month

DOBBS FERRY, NY -  Freshman Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) has been named Mercy College's Female Athlete of the Month for September, while junior Norton Carnegie (Kingston, Jamaica) and sophomore Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) share honors for Male Athlete of the Month.

Bruzzone, a middle hitter on the women's volleyball team, was named East Coast Conference (ECC) Rookie of the Week on September 25, and was named to the Bryant Invitational All-Tournament Team. In the month of September, she led the Flyers in digs (188), digs per game (4.82), and services aces (15), and ranked second on the squad in kills (100), kills per game (2.56), and hitting percentage (.128).

Glebov opened up his sophomore campaign by winning the No. 1 flight singles title at the Scott Satran Tournament. He first knocked off nationally ranked Rodrigo Teixeira of Concordia in three sets during opening round play.  He then started day two by defeating another nationally ranked player, Gustavo Sanchez, in a three-set semifinal match. Glebov then met his third straight nationally ranked opponent, Wojciech Stuchlik of Queens, in the finals where he dropped the first set, but rallied to win the next two and take the championship.

A defender on the men's soccer team, Carnegie earned back-to-back ECC Defensive Player of the Week Awards.  For the month, he helped anchor a defense that allowed just over one goal per game, posted two shutouts, and hold down some of the most potent attacks in the conference.  Carnegie also chipped in the goal that tied the game late in Mercy's 2-1, double overtime win over Molloy.
