Janet Wong, Steve Summer and Alican Seren Named Mercy College's April Student-Athletes of the Month

DOBBS FERRY, NY -  Freshman Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada/Crofton School) of the track and field team has been selected as Mercy College's Female Student-Athlete of the Month for April, while senior Steve Summer (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow High School) of the baseball team and junior Alican Seren (Istanbul, Turkey/Vincennes College) share Male Student-Athlete of the Month honors.

During the month of April, Wong placed first in the javelin at the Bryant Invitational (40.4 meters), and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Coach "O" Invitational (36.6 meters). She also took second at the Collegiate Track Conference meet (37.2 meters). Wong also had two fourth place finishes and one 11th place finish at the same meets in the high jump.

Summer, a 6-foot-1 first baseman, batted a blistering .439 (29-for-66) over 19 games. He posted a .667 slugging percentage, collecting six doubles, smacking three home runs, and driving in 12 runs. Summer hit safely in 17 of the 19 games, at one point hitting in 11 straight, and recorded a .512 on base percentage.  He registered nine multi-hit games during the month, including three games with three hits.

Seren went 5-1 in singles play, primarily at No. 3, and 5-1 in doubles action.  He had a stretch of five straight wins, including a straight-set victory over Dowling in the East Coast Conference Tournament semifinals.  During his five wins, Seren outscored opponents 58 -7.
