Mercy Basketball Teams to Host Scout Night and Brian Sweeney Night on January 17 & 22, at the Westchester County Center

DOBBS FERRY, NY -  The Mercy College men's and women's basketball teams will hold Scout Night on Wednesday, January 17, and Brian Sweeney Night presented by Bob Hyland's Sports Page Pub on Monday, January 22, both at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York.

The Flyers will face St. Thomas Aquinas in a key East Coast Conference (ECC) doubleheader on January 17, for Scout Night.  The women's game will tip-off at 5:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:00 p.m.  All boy scouts, girl scouts, cub scouts, and brownies who wear their uniform and their families will receive free admission to the doubleheader. All scouts in attendance will join the teams on court for the performance of the national anthem, will be recognized at half-time, and will be invited to meet the teams following the games.

Former Mercy College and Archbishop Stepinac High School standout athlete Brian Sweeney will be honored as the Flyers take on another ECC opponent, Bridgeport, on January 22. He will also sign autographs throughout the night. Any youth league team member in uniform will receive free admission to the doubleheader. Sweeney, who played for the Mercy College baseball team from 1993-1996 as a pitcher and outfielder, has gone on to a 10-year career in professional baseball.  Last year he appeared in 37 games during the regular season for the San Diego Padres, going 2-0 with a 3.20 earned run average and three saves. He recently signed a contract with the Nippon Ham Fighters of the Japanese Pacific League.
