Athletics
Communications/Sports Information Services
The Mercy College Athletics Communications
department is responsible for all public relations efforts
involving the college's men's and women's varsity intercollegiate
athletic teams. Mercy's athletics communications office produces
media guides, schedules and athletic publications; distributes news
releases to hometown, regional and national media; maintains the
athletics web site; produces updated materials for distribution on-
and off-campus; produces materials for college publications and
newsletters; keeps statistical and historical files of college
teams and individuals; and serves as spokesperson regarding
athletics issues and public events.
Gameday services
Mercy's athletics communications office produces gameday programs,
which include rosters, statistics and notes. Opponents are asked to
supply Mercy -- via e-mail -- with detailed rosters, up-to-date
statistics and season scores, for use in our gameday program no
later than a day before the event.
Following a home event, Mercy will supply all results to both home and visiting media (on request). Mercy always contacts the Journal News and News 12 with scores and game story/statistics (where applicable).
Mercy will also phone, fax or e-mail results and a game story/statistics to opponent media. Please contact the athletics communications office at least a day in advance of an event with media phone and fax numbers and/or e-mail addresses. Opposing teams are also free to use computers, phones and fax machines in the athletics offices.
Media members at Mercy College events may file stories from the athletics office. The athletics communications office is located in the gymnasium.
For home events, all game stories and statistics are posted on Mercy's athletic website (www.MercyAthletics.com), usually within 60 minutes of an event's completion.
Statistics services
Mercy uses the Stat Crew/Automated Scorebook statistics programs
for men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's
basketball, softball and baseball. Visiting teams that also use
Stat Crew are asked to supply Mercy's Athletics Communications
office with Stat Crew roster files at least two days in advance of
a game.
Mercy uses the "in-game" functions of all Stat Crew programs, and will supply visiting teams and media with complete statistics, following the event. (Baseball, softball, volleyball, men's and women's soccer statistics will be available in the main athletics office approximately 10 minutes after the event).
During events, Mercy provides halftime statistics for basketball. Between-game statistics are provided for volleyball.
Postgame, Mercy will e-mail Stat Crew game files to opposing SIDs, and will also send game files to the ECC office for conference statistics.
All Mercy season and game statistics are kept up-to-date and posted on Mercy's athletic website (www.MercyAthletics.com). Mercy will not fax advance statistics to opponents; opponents can find the information easily available on the website.
Mercy follows all NCAA statistics guidelines, including guidelines for changing official statistics in case of an appeal or error. NCAA statistics guidelines are available on the NCAA website (www.ncaa.org).
Broadcast services
As of October 2008 there are no phone lines available for
broadcasting at Mercy College facilities.
