Sal Marinello joined the Mercy College staff as the strength and conditioning coach in the fall of 2009.

Marinello has been a professional strength and conditioning coach specializing in athletic development for more than 20 years. He currently owns and operates a performance-based private athletic development facility in his hometown of Millburn, N.J., the Millburn-Short Hills Athletic Club.


In addition to being the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Chatham High School (N.J) Marinello served as the assistant head football coach for six seasons and was instrumental in building a Chatham program that went to the state finals and semi-finals over a three year period.

Marinello has worked with high school, college and professional athletes across a wide range of sports including, football, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s gymnastics and figure skating. He also serves as a consultant to numerous high school and college athletic programs. During his career he has conducted approximately 35,000 private training sessions and has spent thousands of additional hours coaching sports and working in high school and college weight rooms.

He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Certified Personal Trainer as designated by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is a USA Weightlifting Certified Coach.

Marinello has been selected to participate in Vern Gambetta’s 2010 elite Master Coaching Mentorship Program for athletic development coaching, a five-day resident coaching program held in Sarasota, Fla.

He earned his degree from Lehigh University in 1984 where he also participated in the Engineers’ football program. He and his wife Jill have three boys; a ten-year old and twin six-year olds.
