Deirdre O'Neill was named the Mercy College head field hockey coach on March 1, 2016.
O’Neill joined the Mercy College staff in the fall of 2015, when she was named the assistant field hockey coach and the media relations assistant.
“I am very excited to be named head field hockey coach at Mercy College,” said O’Neill. “I have had great experiences so far at Mercy College and I am looking forward to bringing my passion and knowledge of field hockey to the program. I would like to thank Director of Athletics, Matt Kilcullen Jr., and Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Bill Sullivan for this incredible opportunity.”
Before joining the Mavericks, O’Neill played for the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she helped lead the Hawks to three NCAA tournament appearances, along with three consecutive SUNYAC Championship titles in 2012, 2013, and the 2014 season. In her final season, O’Neill notched nine goals and added eight assists for 26 points. She was named to the First-Team All-SUNYAC, SUNYAC All-Tournament Team, and among the SUNYAC leaders, she tied for fourth in assists, tied for fifth in points, and ranked 10th in goals.
O’Neill graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations and Communications from SUNY New Paltz in 2015.
