Mark Becker was appointed to the position of Media Relations Assistant in the Mercy College Athletics department in August 2011 by Director of Sports Information and fellow Fordham University graduate Jack A. Zolla. His duties will be to assist in all sports information and media relations responsibilities for the Mavericks’ 10 NCAA Division II nationally competitive teams.

Becker has held a variety of positions in several sports, interacting with many of the most famous athletes in the world while working in the public relations departments for Major League Soccer franchise New York Red Bulls and the Western & Southern Open tennis tournament on the Masters circuit. He currently copy edits for MLBTradeRumors.com and serves on the Twitter staff for CloserNews.com (@closernews).

Becker is especially accomplished in the sport of swimming, as he is currently an assistant coach for the defending boys’ New York State champion Fordham Prep swimming and diving team in the Bronx and has spent three years coaching at the Highland Country Club in his hometown in northern Kentucky. He was a member of the 2007 NISCA team national champions as a senior at Saint Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.

A graduate of Fordham University in 2011 with a bachelor of arts degree in Communications & Media Studies and a minor concentration in Business Administration, Becker served as Sports Editor, Executive Editor and Editor-in-Chief on the university’s official journal of record, The Ram, for which he covered the women’s soccer and men’s basketball beats.
 
He is currently pursuing a master of professional studies degree in Sport Management at St. John’s University. He resides in Astoria, N.Y.
