Byron Garcia joins the Mercy College men’s soccer coaching staff ahead of the fall 2016 season.
Garcia will be assisting with preparing and conducting training sessions, along with recruiting new prospects for the Mercy College men’s soccer team. He will also be helping Coach (Juan) Gatti with the administrative work which goes along with player development as well.
"Byron is a fantastic addition to our coaching staff," stated head coach Pedro Velazquez. "He is a young coach and former Division II student-athlete who has an extremely bright future ahead of him in this profession and we are glad to be able to have him as a part of our program."
Prior to joining the Mercy College men’s soccer coaching staff, Garcia was a member of the NJCAA Ulster County Community College 2007 and 2008 teams. He was a part of the Ulster CC team that was a National Finalist in 2007 and he was named 2nd Team All-Region in 2008. Garcia was also a member of the NCAA Division II Post University 2011 team. He was named to the CACC All-Tournament team after Post University clinched the regular season title for the first time in program history. That wasn’t the only first for Post, as the 2011 season was also the first time the program was ranked nationally.
Following his success at Post University, Garcia became part of the New York Red Bulls Training Program and his dedication and passion for the game would give him the opportunity to worked as a Regional Development School Coach. With the Red Bulls he delivers structured sessions to elite young athletes, providing a healthy and competitive environment with the opportunity for them to learn.
After receiving his Associates Degree in Science from Ulster County Community College from 2010, he went on to graduate from Post University with a Sports Management degree in 2012. Garcia also holds an NSCAA National Diploma and a USSF National D coaching license.
